Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil For sautéing
  • 1 small Onion, chopped Chopped small
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced Minced or grated

  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste For depth of flavor
  • 14 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes Or diced tomatoes
  • 4 cups Broth Fish stock, chicken broth, or veggie broth

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound Firm white fish Cut into chunks (cod, halibut, haddock, etc.)
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika Or sweet paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano Or Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Red pepper flakes Optional for spice

Finishing Touches

  • 1 tablespoon Lemon juice Freshly squeezed
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup Fresh parsley or basil Chopped

Optional Additions

  • 1/4 cup Olives or capers Optional for salty flavor

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a wide pot or deep skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Sauté the chopped onion in the oil for about 3-4 minutes until softened.
  • Add minced garlic and tomato paste, stirring for 1 minute to develop flavor.

Cooking

  • Pour in crushed tomatoes and broth, then add smoked paprika and oregano.
  • Simmer for 8-10 minutes.
  • Add the fish chunks, gently spooning broth over them. Cook for 4-6 minutes until the fish flakes easily.
  • Finish with lemon juice, lemon zest, and fresh herbs. Adjust salt to taste.

Notes

Serve with crusty bread, rice, or a light salad for a complete meal. Adjust seasoning as necessary, and include extra lemon wedges for serving.
